Death of 20 sheep due to foot-and-mouth disease in Al Ajaylat

The Agricultural Police Department announced the death of 20 sheep out of 200 infected with foot-and-mouth disease in the city of Al Ajaylat.

The department explained on its Facebook page that the Al-Jadeed Agricultural Police Center, affiliated with the Al Ajaylat branch, received a report from a citizen regarding the infection of a sheep pen containing 200 sheep with foot-and-mouth disease, resulting in the death of 20.

[Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is enzootic in Libya. In 2024, 70 FMD outbreaks were officially reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). Clinical signs were observed in cattle, sheep, and goats (https://wahis.woah.org/#/in-review/5499?reportId=170991&fromPage=event-dashboard-url).
